Sheridan Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning

Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning is one of Canada's premier polytechnic institutes and is dedicated to exceptional applied learning and graduate success. We are a leader in providing skills-based educational programming that integrates theory with application, preparing students for careers in visual and performing arts, business, community services and technical fields. Sheridan serves close to 15,000 full-time students annually at its campuses in Oakville and Brampton, Ontario. The FTTO Program is led by Sheridan's School of Applied Computing and Engineering Sciences (ACES). Many FTTO students will benefit from taking their classes in Sheridan's Centre for Advanced Manufacturing & Design Technologies (CAMDT). Opened in the fall of 2005 and equipped with the latest technology, the Centre will provide graduates with a broad array of advanced technical and management skills. In addition to providing the best possible learning environment for its technology students, Sheridan is proud to announce that it is seeking national accreditation for its technology programs. The Architectural Technician and Technology programs have recently been accredited by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board, and the other programs offered under FTTO are in the process of being accredited nationally over the next two years.

Centennial College

Centennial College is Ontario’s first community college, established in 1966, primarily serving the eastern portion of the Greater Toronto Area through four campuses and seven satellite locations. It has a record of exemplary teaching, innovative programming and extensive partnership building. Centennial is recognized as one of the most culturally diverse post-secondary institutions in Canada. Almost 100 ethno cultural groups are represented and 80 languages are spoken on campus.

The Centennial FTTO program is specially designed to increase your competitive edge in the job market. It reduces the time it will take you to continue your technology career, while allowing you to enter the Canadian workplace with confidence and knowledge needed to understand your new environment.

OACETT - Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians & Technologists

OACETT is a non-profit, self-governing, professional association of approximately 20,000 members and a 42-year history of certification in Ontario. OACETT promotes the interests of engineering and applied science technicians and technologists in industry, educational institutions, the public and government.

As a long-standing partner of Ontario colleges, OACETT is pleased to be an active partner in the Fast Track to Technology Occupations program. OACETT is assisting Sheridan and Centennial to obtain national accreditation for their technology programs, which will provide graduates with a highly portable credential both across Canada and internationally. OACETT is also working with the colleges to develop better processes for evaluating international training and work experience in relation to college programs, so that FTTO students receive the appropriate level of advanced standing for their international experience. Sheridan and Centennial are grateful to OACETT for their overall support for the FTTO project, and will encourage FTTO graduates to seek certification as Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists through OACETT.

OCASI - Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants/settlement.org

The Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants and its signature portal, settlement.org, are important partners in the FTTO program. Representing agencies that provide a range of services to newcomers, OCASI is able to provide valuable advice to our program so that we can better meet the needs of newcomers looking for specialized training as a fast track to their career in Canada. OCASI has assisted in the development of the Technology Fast Track web portal, and has developed the Job Profiles content on this site. Sheridan and Centennial appreciate the ongoing advice and support of OCASI, and encourage visitors to the Technology Fast Track site to visit www.settlement.org where they will find good, accurate, reliable and timely information and resources to settle in Ontario, Canada. With links to other excellent sites and services in their local community, settlement.org provides an electronic community where newcomers can read announcements, make contacts, discuss current issues, find answers to frequently asked questions and access a directory of organizations.

QCICCET - Quality & Continuous Improvement Centre for Community Education & Training

QCICCET provides workplace and career training, secondary school credit programs, literacy and ESL courses, job search programs and general interest courses, and conducts research to support community capacity building and service delivery. The FTTO program has benefited from QCICCET's experience in meeting the needs of the newcomer population and their expertise in the assessment of newcomer language skills. Sheridan and Centennial would like to acknowledge the expert advice provided by QCICCET during the design of the FTTO Workplace Preparation Program, as well as the lead role QCICCET played in the development of a new language screening tool that helps us assess applicants' language skills as part of our program recruitment process.

TRIEC - Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council

TRIEC is working to remove the barriers immigrants face when entering the labour market, while at the same time helping organizations benefit from the talents and skills immigrants bring with them to Canada. Since 2003, TRIEC has collaborated with a diverse group of stakeholders including employers, post-secondary institutions, employment service providers, community organizations, regulatory bodies and all three levels of government with the goal of finding and implementing local, practical solutions that lead to meaningful employment for skilled immigrants. The FTTO project is fortunate to have TRIEC on board in an advisory capacity. Sheridan and Centennial are currently in discussion with The Mentoring Partnership to develop a collaborative model that will bring the colleges and the mentoring program together to provide services to FTTO participants.

All partners in the Fast Track to Technology Occupations project are committed to the success of the project, and most importantly, to the project's primary goal of assisting internationally trained individuals to obtain employment that is commensurate with their education and experience.

The FTTO partners wish to acknowledge the generosity of the Government of Ontario in providing funding support for this initiative.
